ABOUT US

The Emotion, Cognition, and Health Outcome (ECHO) Lab at the University of South Carolina is led by Dr. Chih-Hsiang "Jason" Yang in the Discovery Building on campus. Our team applies mobile technology to study the affective and cognitive determinants and consequences of movement-based behaviors from children to older adults. We also study the roles of mindfulness and physical activity in promoting health in aging populations.

The primary goal of our team is to reduce the risks of chronic and neurological diseases that accumulate with age. We capture individuals' mental and behavioral data in real time to understand the dynamic of changes in health behaviors and outcomes. Our ultimate goal is to develop evidence-based, ecologically valid, cost-effective, and scalable interventions to promote public health and prevent chronic diseases.
